Our Grant Making Philosophy
The Community Foundation believes in improving the lives of our local citizens; therefore, we only award grants to projects and organizations that will make an impact within Livingston County. Our belief and standard for grant recipients is that their project or program must demonstrate a high level of sustainability and a passion for improving an aspect of Livingston County. The Community Foundation will make grants to 501(c)(3) public charities, government entities, school districts, and universities that provide programs that serve Livingston County. If an organization is not based in Livingston County, it must demonstrate connections to the local community. Organizations must have an independent certified financial audit, or in some cases a financial review. We do not make grants to individuals, sectarian religious programs, or to cover deficits or other previously incurred obligations.
A revised grant application cycle for 2021 is OPEN, with a deadline of April 15, 2021. Nonprofits, government entities, schools and universities can apply for funds to assist in plans to recover and restore capacity and programs in innovative ways. A Grant in Action
New Tech High, a relatively recent academic addition to Pinckney Community High School, received a grant from the Community Foundation for Livingston County to get the program started, and the grant also leveraged additional funding from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. Julia McBride, Director of Instruction for Pinckney New Tech High, discusses how the unique academic program made its way to PCHS and how the Project Based Learning curriculum has made a positive impact on students and the community.
Apply for a Grant
To apply for a grant, potential applicants are encouraged to contact the Community Foundation to discuss a proposed project before submitting a proposal. Speak with a Community Foundation for Livingston County Program Officer at (810) 229-2550 to learn more.
The Community Foundation for Livingston County has two grant cycles every year. Proposals submitted prior to February 15 will receive a response in June, and proposals submitted by August 15 will receive a response in December. Community Foundation staff will notify you if a decision may take longer.
